Daywise Itinerary

Day 1. Transfer to Shillong Via Umiam Lake

Upon arrival at Guwahati Airport/Kamakhya railway station, our  driver will pick you up and proceed to Shillong. Which takes almost 3-4hr to reach (118 km). Shillong is the  capital city of Meghalaya and it is known as Scotland of East. Shillong is also famous for its city view and surrounding hills.

On the way will visit Umiam lake:

⦁ Umiam Lake: Umiam lake is also known as “Barapani Lake” and it is located near Shillong and lake is created by damming the umiam river. Lake is surrounded by lush green which offers breathtaking views and a peaceful environment.

Overnight stay at Shillong.

Today will explore the local sightseeing of Shillong which includes:

⦁ Don Bosco Center Indigenous Cultures Shillong: largest cultural museum of the Asian continent. It is located at Mawlai, Shillong.  DBCIC focuses on research, training, cultural studies, and publications, serving as a hub for knowledge-sharing about the diverse cultures of Northeast India. The Don Bosco Museum, which opened its doors to the public in late 2003, highlights the cultures and traditions of Mizoram, Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.

⦁ Lady Hydari Park:  Lady Hydari Park, a picturesque green space in the heart of the town, was established by Lady Hydari, the nature-loving wife of the former Governor of Assam. Spanning over a kilometer, this park features a mini zoo and a deer park, along with meticulously maintained rose beds that showcase a variety of vibrant blooms. 

⦁ Ward’s Lake:  Ward’s Lake is one of Shillong’s prominent tourist destinations and is considered a must-visit. Also referred to as Pollock’s Lake (Nan Polok) after a renowned engineer from the pre-independence era.

⦁ Shillong Peak: It is one of the renowned attractions in Meghalaya tourism. Shillong Peak, situated at an elevation of 6,449 meters above sea level, provides a sweeping panoramic view of Shillong City and the surrounding lush greenery, offering a stunning vista of nature’s scenic splendor.

⦁ Elephant Falls: Elephant Falls is a highly frequented tourist spot. The clear water and lush greenery create a captivating scene, making the falls a must-see attraction. Named after a rock that once resembled an elephant but was destroyed in the 1897 earthquake.

Cathedral Church: The Cathedral church is located in Laitumkhrah Hill and it is made up of stained Glass with elegant proportions.

Overnight stay at Shillong.

Today will move towards Cherrapunjee.which takes almost 2-3 hr to reach (54 km) to reach by road. Cherrapunji is also known as sohra also which is located in East Khasi Hills. Cherrapunjee is wettest destination of India.

On the way will visit Mawlynnong village and Dawki River:

⦁ Mawlynnong Village: Mawlynnong is renowned for its remarkable cleanliness. Waste is gathered in bamboo dustbins, and then composted in a designated pit to be used as fertilizer. A community-driven effort ensures that every resident is involved in keeping the village clean.

⦁ Dawki River: crystal-clear waters that are popular on social media and even enjoy local boating. Along the way to Dawki, you’ll be treated to the stunning views of Borhill Falls and Kyram Falls.

⦁ Single Decker Bridge: Bridges around the world are celebrated as some of humanity’s greatest achievements, but the natural wonder of the Living Root Bridges in Meghalaya is truly astonishing. These incredible structures are carefully cultivated over time and stand out as major attractions in Meghalaya. The unique bridges, crafted from intertwined thick roots, are robust enough to support 50 or more people at once. 

Overnight stay in Cherrapunjee.

Today will indulge ourselves with Double Decker Hiking:

⦁ Double Decker Bridge: These living bridges, crafted from a unique type of rubber tree, gain strength as their roots mature. Often regarded as the Taj Mahal of Meghalaya, they take about 25 years to fully develop but can support the weight of up to 50 people and remain functional for up to 500 years. Typically regarded as a strenuous path, it takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete. This area is well-known for bird watching and  hiking.

⦁ Rainbow Falls The trek to the Rainbow Falls: Located close to the Double Decker Root Bridge, this renowned waterfall in Meghalaya is a must-visit spot in Cherrapunji. Nestled deep within the forest, it earns its name from the small rainbow that appears near the falls, created by the interplay of sunlight with the cascading water.

Check out by late morning or early afternoon, depending on your flight timing, your driver will transfer you Airport in Guwahati where the tour ends with lots of memories of the scenic landscapes and majestic waterfalls of Cherrapunji.
